Effect of Chirp Characteristics of Directly Modulated Laser on the Signal Transmission Performance

This paper investigated the effect of chirp characteristics of directly modulated laser on the signal transmission performance. It is observed that the negative dispersion shifted fiber shows better performance in both adiabatic and transient dominated laser. However, much better performance is observed in case of transient dominated laser.  At the end of the study,  an equalizing  fiber  is  used  to compensate  the  distortion  induced  by   laser  chirp  and   fiber nonlinearities.
